The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project (JDCRP) Foundation is seeking a Student Reviewer of Digitized Documents (Student Position) to support our Product Owner and our Research and Documentation Officer. This is a limited-term contract through June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability.

About Us

The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project Foundation, established in 2019 by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) and the Commission for Art Recovery (CAR), is based in Berlin, Germany. Our mission is to create and populate a central, scalable digital data platform for archival source material on the cultural plunder conducted during the National Socialist regime.

In addition to sponsoring an archival platform, JDCRP supports research and education projects that uncover the full scope of the theft and highlight the cultural contributions of European pre-WWII Jewry. By leveraging state-of-the-art technology, the digital platform enables cross-archival links and improved search capabilities, serving both specialists and the general public.

Role Overview

The Student Reviewer of Digitized Documents will work closely with both JDCRP’s Product Owner and Research and Documentation Officer to assist reviewing transcriptions of archival material, evaluating the results, safeguarding completeness and correcting errors according to JDCRP guidelines. This role helps reduce the error rate on transcriptions to achieve high levels of accuracy and quality of transcriptions.

Responsibilities

Archival Documentation Support

  • Review transcriptions of archival documents. The reviews are automatically produced by AI/OCR software.
  • Correct errors on transcriptions of archival documents on looted cultural objects.
  • (Re-)structure the transcriptions when AI put the wrong data in the wrong fields.
  • Findings and issues will be discussed on a weekly basis with JDCRP´s Product Owner (for technical improvements) and the JDCRP`s Research and Documentation Officer (for questions about the content).

Qualifications

  • Accuracy and proficiency in working with structured data in databases and/or Excel.
  • Sufficient IT skills to do structured tasks (like search or search and replace) fast, automated.
  • Preferably knowledge of/experience with AI prompt writing.
  • Grasp of complex information in a detail-oriented manner.
  • Preferably knowledge of or interest in cultural fields such as art history, provenance research or digital humanities.
  • University enrollment with student status.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and in German.
  • Ability to conduct tasks independently after onboarding, with regular review sessions with JDCRP team members
  • A proactive and collaborative work style.

Role Overview

The Grant Development Officer will play a vital role in writing, submitting and overseeing grants while ensuring compliance with funder requirements. This includes facilitating communication with donors, partner organizations, and internal team members to ensure alignment between project objectives, grant stipulations, and finances.

This role requires strong bilingual communication skills (German and English), as well as previous grant writing experience with both public and private funding sources.  Knowledge of European Union funding is a plus. A background in related fields such as art history, archival research, history, provenance research, Jewish history and Holocaust studies is highly desirable, as is familiarity with AI-driven computer technology and digital humanities.

Responsibilities

Grant Development and Administration:

  • Identify opportunities for grant proposals and grant extensions that support the JDCRP Foundation’s strategic plans and organizational growth.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Board and team to design, draft, and submit grant applications, including work plans and projected budgets.
  • Act as the primary liaison with grant administrators, ensuring smooth communication and compliance.
  • Monitor grant goals and deadlines, ensuring timely submission of reports and any necessary adjustments.
  • Plan and oversee the work required for submissions, reporting, and communication with funders and partners.
  • Create reports on grant expenditures in collaboration with the finance department.

Project Oversight: 

  • Ensure alignment between project activities and grant objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Regularly review grant implementation progress and report to the Board, recommending mid-term adjustments if necessary.
  • Facilitate collaboration between members of the project team and the Foundation’s finance officer to ensure budget compliance.
  • Ensure internal operations meet grant requirements and support the JDCRP’s mission.

Donor and Partner Relations:

  • Research and identify potential funding sources (public and private), initiating contact where appropriate.
  • Help build and maintain relationships with existing and future donors, funders, and partner organizations in coordination with the Executive Board.
  • Prepare and organize relevant internal and external meetings with foundation entities, donors, and partner organizations.
  • Provide updates to the Executive Board and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed records of donor interactions and transactions.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in grant writing, development, and project administration in a non-profit or similar sector.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a small team where collaboration and initiative are key.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and German, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant areas such as art history, archival research, history, provenance research and Holocaust studies is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and proactive work style, with a commitment to integrity and transparency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and familiarity with grant management software and tools.
